Let's do a Poker Run

Welcome to the Poker Run website. In case you're not familiar with the concept of a Poker Run, here's a description:

What exactly is a Poker Run?

A Poker Run is an aviation event where pilots fly to a series of checkpoint airports and draw a playing card at each one. At the end of the event, each pilot's best five-card poker hand determines the winner. It's a great way to raise money for your aviation organization and get pilots in the air!

How is an Event set up?

An Event administrator creates a new Poker Run Event and adds up to 10 checkpoints at various nearby airports. The Admin can print off a QR code for each checkpoint airport and place the sheet in the FBO so arriving pilots can scan it to draw their card.

How do Pilots sign up?

Pilots join an Event by creating an account, finding the Event in the list, and clicking Join.

How does the Admin manage registrations?

The Admin can review sign-ups by going into the Event and clicking "Manage Registrations," then accepting each Pilot individually. You decide how to collect entry fees and what percentage of the pot pays out to the winner(s).

How does a Pilot draw cards?

Once registered, a Pilot flies to a checkpoint airport and goes to the Event page, then clicks VIEW MY HAND. From there, clicking SCAN QR CODE will open the camera so the Pilot can scan the QR code posted in the FBO to draw a card from the deck. You will probably need to grant the website camera permission the first time. Note: you can only draw ONCE per checkpoint.

How does a Pilot build their hand?

After drawing cards at multiple checkpoints, a Pilot builds their best five-card hand on the VIEW MY HAND page. Clicking BEST HAND will let the website automatically select the strongest possible hand from your drawn cards. Or you can arrange the hand yourself by tapping and holding a card, then dragging it into your Poker Hand or back down to the Available Cards section.

How is the winner determined?

The pilot with the best five-card poker hand wins the pot! Once all Pilots have returned to the starting airport, hands are compared and the winner is paid out while the remaining pilots scheme about how they might win next time.
